Ikat is a process of dyeing on silk or cotton fabrics and this results in colourful patterns.  Ikat is one of the ancient techniques of fabric dyeing. In early days colors from nature are used for dyeing but now a days chemial dyeing is also in practice. in early weavers weave by hand but  now weaving is done by machines.

For maintaining a ikat silk sarees, a gentle wash by hands or dry cleaning is recommended ,..For cotton Ikat sarees, a thorough wash in the washing machine can be done but a dry cleaning is a better option.
The price of sarees range from 2000 to 20000 depends on design and the process involved.

Now one more latest trend is that a heavy duppatas / chenderi type dupptas are using in traditional wear The advantage of  wearing these ones is that even a simple churidar suit will gives a rich and traditional look.,so ikat technique is used as a new style.

Pochampally is a famous cotton and silk ikat weaving centre in Telangana state, just 50km fro Hyderabad. The weavers of pochampally started initially weaving cotton sares and then silk sarees.The pochampally weave and design pattern differ itself from others fabrics.
